Where can I find the cost basis for my Old GM stock?
First, determine the dates you acquired the stock (including dates of dividend reinvestments). You can get this information from your broker or statement. Second, assign a value on each day that you acquired shares (or a share). We have links on this website to available historical stock prices. We do not have additional stock information available. For older stock history, you may have to use other sources and estimate with your best efforts. This should not be construed as tax advice, nor should it replace the advice of a tax professional and the IRS. You can contact the IRS with tax questions at 1.800.829.1040.
Where can I find proof of cancellation on my Old GM stock for tax purposes?
Please find confirmation of cancellation in the April 4, 2011 Form 8K filed with the SEC. You may link to a copy of the applicable Form 8K here. We are able to provide a copy upon request.
Is the stock of the New GM now listed on a national exchange?
Yes. Shares of New GM common stock owned by the U.S. Government were sold in an initial public offering in November 2010 on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE). The symbol for the shares is GM. Stockholders of the former GM did not receive these shares in exchange for their stock of Old GM.
